Press Release – Maria Price appointed as new ERFA Secretary General

The Board of Directors has appointed Maria Price as the new Secretary General of ERFA.

Maria Price is a seasoned expert in international transport legislation, policy development and railway law. She has more than 20 years of experience across international, European institutions and organisations such as the European Commission, EIM, UIP and OTIF.

Ms. Price is joining ERFA directly from OTIF, the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail based in Bern. Within OTIF, Maria Price has gained extensive experience in promoting international carriage by rail and maintaining relations with the EU and non-EU member states, with DG MOVE, ERA and railway stakeholders’ associations.

Prior to working for OTIF, Ms. Price acted as Head of EU Policies and Public Affairs for the Union of International Wagon Keepers (UIP) and as Manager and Advisor for European Infrastructure Managers (EIM) in Brussels. Maria Price holds a doctorate from the Transport Studies Unit at the University of Oxford and a master’s degree in International Law and World Order from the University of Reading.

Dirk Stahl, President ERFA stated: “I am happy to announce that we have managed to find such a qualified and suitable person to strengthen ERFA. Maria Price is the right person to drive the further development of ERFA alongside the board.  ERFA, the voice for private and independent rail freight companies active in the European Union, continues to gain importance due to the many relevant political issues surrounding rail freight.”

Maria Price, Appointed ERFA Secretary General highlighted: “I am looking forward to representing ERFA Members at European Union level at this exciting moment, given that we are facing a new legislative cycle in which concrete action must be taken to make all sectors of the European economy, including transport, sustainable. ERFA has a crucial role to play in this transition.”

Maria Price is taking over the role of Secretary General as of 1st March 2026. Until then, Josselin Petit will serve as acting Secretary General.
