ERFA advises on a better implication and commitment of RUs in Freight Corridors management

14-11-12

The Secretary General Pierre Tonon was invited by the European Commission to express the RUs opinion face to 20 Member States and Infrastructure Managers (IMs) during the DERC working group on Rail Freight corridors (See the Regulation 913/2010). We have to remember that on next November 2013, already 6 of the 9 corridors start “official” operation : The corridors 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9. The DERC is the Development of European Railway Committee gathering Representatives of Member States and set up by the first directive 91/440. This Committee is becoming the SERAC (Sigle European Railway Area Committee) with the adoption of the Recast of the 1st RP. ERFA has until now identified interest of ERFA Members for freight corridors 1,2,3 and 8. The Corridors are part of the core business of ERFA Members and are on the forefront of a best “customer – oriented” long haul cross border rail freight traffic strongly promoted by ERFA! Based on its experience in RAGs (Railway Undertakings Advisory Boards) part of the corridor management, ERFA develop recommendations for a better interactive and harmonized management of the corridors.
