The Secretary General Tonon was invited in Tournai (Belgium) last 17th October by the government of the Walloon Region and by VNF (Voies Navigables de France) to present – in the stakeholders meeting and consultation - what will be the rail freight offer in the frame of the intermodal services of the Seine-Escaut canal. This TEN-T huge project will be operational before 2020 and will offer rail freight services through 4 multimodal platforms directly linked to the canal. See the project via http://www.seine-scheldt.eu/.
ERFA pointed out the alternative offer by the short distance rail freight services and reminded that already 14 RUs in Belgium and 18 in France are certified. The TEN-T core and comprehensive networks and the associated CEF will offer opportunities to co-finance and develop hinterland connections to ports, multimodal platforms and single wagon load traffic projects.
