The rail sector and its customers presented a declaration at the TEN-T Days in Rotterdam, committing themselves to the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of the Rail Freight Corridors for the benefit of all customers, and to improving the quality, reliability and efficiency of transporting goods by rail across Europe.

ERFA held its Annual event in Brussels on 15th March, with EU Transport Head, Mr Henrik Hololei headlining the evening event. Goods, unlike people, don?t vote. The needs of rail freight are often neglected. While the rights of passengers have driven discussions on improving passenger services, how can we raise the game for rail freight and ensure it plays a key role in a sustainable transport system?
At the ERFA workshop lowering user charges and incentivising higher performance for rail were the two main themes discussed together with rail regulators and the European Commission. New EU rules provide greater transparency, cost-efficiency and consistency in the charges rail has to pay, but in some Member States there is poor enforcement.
ERFA Vice-President Frank Schuhholz described the impact of track access charges on rail's attractivenss to customers at an event co-sponsored by CER, ERFA and UIRR. Efficient transport pricing for the rail sector and for all modes of transport is needed in order to avoid price distortions that undermine the competitiveness of the sector.

On 20th November ERFA, as a Representative Body, took part in the Group of Representative Bodies' event welcoming the current ERA Director,Marcel Verslype and his successor, Josef Doppelbauer in Brussels.
